Mhair Educational, Health and Human Rights Organization (MEHHRO) is a non-profit and non-political organization. It was established in 2002 by Afghan intellectual and veteran group of youth with the beliefs of meaningful empowerment and a better future is possible. It is registered with ministry of economy and the registration number is; 480 MEHHRO, in the last 20 years implemented 246 projects where the impact of those projects is visual in lives of the affected people. We at MEHHRO, based on our past 20 years work experience in the field of humanitarian and community development, strongly believe that human development and alleviation of human suffering can best be addressed and healed through humanitarian cooperation and partnership within a transparent, accountable and well-defined frame of action for common human goals and purposes. Indeed, we are a human rights-based organization as we strictly observe in all policies and operations: participation, empowerment, accountability, non-discrimination, equality and legality. We as a civil society organization, strongly believe in human rights-based development and mandatory introduced since 2008 by the UN system.
Our overall vision is to realize an aware, prosperous, and healthy society in Afghanistan including women, children, and vulnerable groups where quality social services are provided based on the principles of human rights, democracy, social justice.
MEHHRO's mission is to improve the lives and livelihoods of Afghans and their children through education, health, literacy training, Food security, and sustainable development projects in order to see an Afghanistan free from poverty, child abuse, child marriage, child labor, Gender-based violence, and discrimination, where human rights are respected and all live in dignity, enjoy equal opportunity and social justice. MEHHRO will focus on the special need of children (nutrition, Protection, peace, safe environment, Education, Health, and safety) to realize their long-lasting dream to ensure a successful Afghanistan.
MEHRRO is ably administered and supported by a team of qualified National as well as International Professionals with technical proficiency in sustainable community development, humanitarian assistance, education, training and financial and accounting domains. The Board of Directors is the overall governing body to provide policy directions and supports MEHHRO to achieve its goals as per the organisational vision and mission. Supervised by the Board of Directors, the Management Board consists of senior executives headed by the General Director. The Management Board is responsible for overall management and operations of the projects across the country. They are responsible for developing the organisational strategy plans, budgets and implementing and managing the performance. At the main office in Kabul, the management Board of MEHHRO is led by the General director, Deputy Director, Program Advisor, Program Manager, Administrative and Finance Manager and observers from the Provincial offices of MEHHRO. Apart from the main office in Kabul, MEHHRO has fully operational provincial offices located in Kunduz and Khost Provinces.
MEHHRO has implemented over 246 projects in the areas of: Vocational Education and Adult Literacy, Humanitarian assistance and Emergency Relief, Civic Education and Advocacy and Conflict Resolution and Peace Building. The target focus are the most vulnerable women, children, youth, IDPs, returnees and refugees. These multi-sectoral projects have benefitted about 5 million vulnerable people across several provinces in Afghanistan. MEHHRO’s projects are funded and technically supported by the World Bank, WFP, USAID, UNIFEM, GIZ, IOM, The Asia Foundation, UN Women, UN HABITAT, UNAMA, UNCEF, British Council, Solvak Aid, US Embassy, Janpan Embassy and many other donor organisations.
Raising public awareness, providing social services and access to justice initiatives for women victims of violence and capacity-building of civil society organizations In support of these strategic areas, MEHHRO uses the following approaches:
• Training and Capacity Building: MEHHRO focuses on training and capacity building as a means to provide the people of Afghanistan with the tools to take active roles as agents of change in their respective communities. MEHHRO develops and implements capacity building trainings on a range of issues related to peace, human rights, gender, good governance, accountability, advocacy and leadership at the local, sub-national and national level. These activities are meant to enable people to identify issues and challenges affecting their lives and communities, to build alliances with other groups, and to address the issues themselves or advocate for solutions.
• Advocacy and Awareness: Public support is necessary to advocate for change. In order to have public support, it is necessary to raise awareness about the issues, challenges and opportunities and mobilize people for demanding change. MEHHRO carries out advocacy activities at the provincial, national and international levels.
• Mobilization: MEHHRO believes in building partnerships and inclusive approaches. This entails developing partnerships and platforms at the local, provincial and national level to encourage support for and foster wide-reaching involvement in MEHHRO’s projects and initiatives.
